Xylenol Orange Tetrasodium Salt

FAQ's

Xylenol Orange Tetrasodium Salt is mainly used as a metal-ion indicator in complexometric titrations and particularly in analytical methods involving EDTA. Its ability to interact with metal ions also makes it useful as a spectrophotometric reagent, where changes in optical properties can be measured to identify different metal ions in chemical samples.

Xylenol Orange acts as a metallochromic indicator by forming a reversible complex with metal ions during complexometric titration. The metal–indicator complex produces an intense red to purple coloration. As EDTA is added, it preferentially binds the available metal ions and gradually displaces Xylenol Orange from the complex. Once the metal ions have been captured by EDTA, the indicator remains in its free form and giving a yellow color that signals the titration endpoint.
