Potassium Acetate is used as a buffering and neutralizing agent, a base and catalyst in organic synthesis and a source of potassium ions. It also has applications in pharmaceutical formulations, food processing, laboratory research, polymer chemistry and de-icing systems.

Potassium acetate (CH₃COOK) is also known as potassium ethanoate or ethanoic acid potassium salt. It is the potassium salt of acetic acid (CH₃COOH), commonly used in electrolyte formulations, acetate buffer systems, chemical synthesis, and as a de-icing agent. 

Potassium Acetate and potassium Chloride both contain potassium as an elemental component. Potassium chloride (KCl) is the potassium salt of hydrochloric acid, whereas potassium acetate (CH₃COOK) is the potassium salt of acetic acid. Both are used as potassium sources in the food and textile Industry, pharmaceutical formulation and laboratory applications. 

Potassium acetate is highly soluble in water. It readily dissociates into potassium (K⁺) and acetate (CH₃COO⁻) ions, making it suitable for preparing aqueous solutions and buffers.
