Sodium Nitroferricyanide is used as a nitric oxide (NO) donor and analytical reagent in research. It is applied in nitric oxide studies, ammonia determination and colorimetric and chromatographic analysis. It is also used medically as a rapid-acting vasodilator.
Sodium Nitroprusside and nitroglycerin are different vasodilators, although both act through nitric oxide-related mechanisms to relax blood vessels. Sodium nitroprusside produces balanced arterial and venous dilation, on the other side nitroglycerin predominantly dilates veins at lower doses and reduces cardiac workload.
