The chemical formula for Ammonium acetate is NH₄CH₃CO₂, which is also commonly written as NH₄C₂H₃O₂. It consists of one ammonium ion (NH₄⁺) and one acetate ion (CH₃COO⁻) forming a water-soluble ammonium salt commonly used in analytical chemistry, pharmaceutical applications  and organic synthesis.

Ammonium acetate is a salt of a weak base (ammonia) and a weak acid (acetic acid). Its aqueous solutions are generally close to neutral but the exact pH depends on concentration and the conditions of preparation.

Ammonium acetate is made by the reaction of ammonia and acetic acid. It can also be produced by ammonium carbonate and glacial acetic acid under controlled conditions.
